We work with a number of organizations that provide Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for clients that wish to offset their electricity use with wind power or other renewable resources. One of the most informative and helpful organizations is Renewable Choice, a company based in Boulder, Colorado that provides RECs nationwide.
This month Renewable Choice has an excellent article on recognizing and avoiding 'greenwashing' when making a green power purchase. As the standards refine about what constitutes 'green' power, it's important to know reliable sources that are also Green-e certified. This designation not only qualifies the offset purchase for credit in the LEED program, it also ensures energy used by the building or company is replaced by renewable sources.
