The US Green Building Council announced the start of the Building Performance Initiative (BPI) late last year to enable ongoing assessment of energy and water efficiency for LEED projects. Any LEED project can participate in BPI, though participattion is required for LEED 2009 projects under the new Minimum Project Requirements for all LEED 2009 programs.
The good news is that LEED 2009 for New Construction, Core & Shell and Schools projects that participate in BPI Data Collection Phase 1 and sign the USGBC data release form can earn one point under Energy & Atmosphere Credit 5. For more details on BPI and links to program participation, click here.
